Trip to Italy, part 4: Garda
by Mice007 on feb.19, 2009, under Garda, Italy
I’m just realized that I still owe you with the final part of our trip to Italy. So lets see… first a few words about the place: Lago di Garda (or Lake Garda). It is a narrow lake in the alpine region, north Italy. The upper half of the lake is surrounded by mountains and was formed by glaciers. The mountains are about 1500-2000m tall so the whole place looks really breathtaking.
Before we went to Italy we had the idea to visit the lake but it was not a fixed point in our trip. We did a little research about the towns and hotels but nothing serious and on the last day in Jesolo we decided to stick to the plan and visit the place. The idea was to find a hotel on the eastern side for a good price. It was a bit risky because of summer and a lot of occupied hotels. First we tried the tourist info and they recommended a place in Garda but it was simply impossible to access it with a car. One way and closed roads around the beach… Next we headed to the north and we were lucky and found a really nice place in Torri del Benaco, Hotel Garden. They had two available rooms for a really good price, nice garden with enough place for the cars. After a small relaxing we continued our way to the north to Malcesine. This is a beautiful town about 20km to the north under a 2000m tall mountain. The town is really amazing, small and narrow pedestrian streets and a fantastic panorama to the lake and the mountains. After we discovered this place we went back to our hotel with a stop at a nice food store to buy some fresh bread, mortadella and cheese for dinner. Before the sunset we had time for a little swim in the lake, it was a little cold but crystal clear.
I had a terrible night this day, we got the room with a lake view and the road between the lake and the hotel was really noisy. The traffic was light but they exceeded the speed limit big time and I think I woke up in every 10-15 minutes. Next day we left the hotel early and had only a few small stops until we arrived at home late night.
Trip to Italy, part 3: Venice
by Mice007 on aug.21, 2008, under Italy, Venice
We decided to visit the famous city, Venice on Tuesday. There are several ways to get there from Lido di Jesolo using public transport: ship, bus+ ship, bus. First we checked the ship only version but it was a bit expensive compared to the limitations in the schedule. It goes 9am to Venice and comes back at 5pm for 22 EUR (one person). Not the best because we wanted to take some night photos too.
So we finally selected the second option so we bought a combined ticket for 18 EUR (return, one person) and planned to leave Jesolo after lunch. We caught the bus number 2 and at the bus station (last stop) the bus number 5 to Punta Sabbioni where we found the ship to Venice. The trip was nice but not too fast, lots of bus stops on number 5.
When we first saw the dock and the amazing amount of people we made a quick decision about skip the St. Mark’s square and go to the alleys with the hope of much less tourists. This was a great idea so we were able to take photos of the real face of Venice. The city seems much smaller on the maps than in the real life so we saw only a small part of this amazing place on this day. For a bigger exploration including some surrounding islands a week is needed.
Afternoon we went back to the centre of the island and noticed that half of the tourists already gone so we were able to look around at St. Mark’s square. It was not a lucky moment for us because they prepared the place for a concert and also several buildings was under restoration. After we looked around and played with the friendly pigeons we went to discover the alleys on the other side of the square. After we reached the La Fenice Theatre we headed back to the docks so we successfully caught the ship back to Jesolo at 22 pm. I took many photos there and selected only the best pictures for you so I hope you’ll enjoy the gallery below.
Trip to Italy, part 2: Jesolo
by Mice007 on júl.31, 2008, under Italy, Jesolo
After Klagenfurt we reached the Alps, the best part of our trip. There are many tunnels, viaducts, bridges and an amazing glacier river. We made a stop at a gas station right after entering Italy for taking a few photos. Here we saw a Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé in the parking lot, I was surprised how big is this car!
After the mountains the remaining route was a bit boring and the traffic became more noticeable. We finally arrived to Hotel Janeiro around 6 pm and after the paperwork we got a very good dinner at the restaurant of the hotel. The room was clean and good enough for a week. We bought a nice cooler box for this trip so the cold beer was ready to drink. ![]()
Later we left for a walk, there were many people outside already. After 8 pm cars were not allowed to enter the street of Lido di Jesolo. The street is really so long and it repeats itself so after a hotel there is a shop and then a gaming-room then a hotel again and a cloth shop then a gaming-room and then a hotel and so on.

Trip to Italy, part 1: Klagenfurt
by Mice007 on júl.28, 2008, under Austria, Klagenfurt
This year we planned to visit Lido di Jesolo by car. It is a small place in Italy but it is famous for its 15km long beach with a lot of hotels, shops, restaurants.
We left Budapest on 20th, Sunday and after a few hours of driving we arrived at Klagenfurt, Austria. This is a small city at the south part of the country, close to the Alps. We arrived here around lunch time so made a stop at the first good looking restaurant. It was fun because we only realized that it is an Italian restaurant after we got a “buon giorno” (means good morning in italian) from the waiter. The food was very good and really Italian.
After the lunch we headed to the center of the city for a walk. The city is beautiful and there are several pedestrian zones surrounded by boutiques and mostly Italian restaurants. In the gallery bellow you can see how this place looks like.
